I can understand why it's a favorite. Interesting on the ontbijtkoek - that sounds similar to the way you add ginger snaps in German Sauerbraten. Must give it a try!

One of my favorite dishes as a Dutch person. A great addition is a little of the ontbijtkoek (like my mother-in-law does), it binds the sauce and gives another layer in the flavor.
