Thanks for sharing the history behind these lovely treats.
I plan on trying them but stovetop. How long relatively do you suppose it'd take for both chewy and crisp, please?

In reply to Sylvia. Coconut is certainly a fairly core part of the traditional recipe. You could replace them with extra oats, or alternatively maybe try some thinly sliced almonds and break them up a bit (either by hand or a couple pulses in a food processor)?

What can I use instead of coconut? I loathe coconut and haven't made these biscuits because of it. I'm desperate to make them!
