In reply to Lisa. Yes, if you don't take out the amount for the frosting (or add extra dry ingredients to compensate) you will have too much egg/sugar in the cookie mixture and it will, as you say, be stickier. I agree, they're yummy cookies!

Do you need to take out the quarter cup from the egg/powdered sugar if you are making the frosting separate? I just left it in and I think the dough was much stickier this year. I really love these cookies!

These cookies are a new addition to our annual holiday baking. Everyone loved them! The meringue topping adds a nice extra touch.

In reply to Sue. I'm glad you enjoyed but surprised you got so few - they must have been very big cookies. Typically, these are relatively small, and the approx number listed here is consistent with many other traditional recipes.
