I believe, having looked up, that poison sumac used to be considered part of the same plant family but possibly not any more. The flowers are white rather than red. But there are varieties of sumac in North America - the main variety used in cooking, though, is from the Middle East, as here, and is worth trying!

Interesting, I have seen the title Sumac in dishes before and wondered about it because here in the US we have poison sumac, a green that grows that is similar (but more aggressive and allergic) than poison ivy. I had wondered how people cooked with it but now I see its something altogether different. The chicken looks good!

It's not that well known outside the Middle East, which is a shame as it's a lovely spice. Worth trying!

It's a less known spice, but definitely worth a try - hope you find some and make this.

Perfect, I hope you'll give this a try - it's a great way to truly appreciate sumac (and fattoush is another favorite, that you could have on the side too if you like!)

One goal this year was to branch out with flavors and I've got sumac. We love fattoush and make it often. I'm so happy to find this recipe to use my sumac to make another amazing dinner and begin to branch out with new recipes.
